Electric bike building competition provides opportunity for high school students to learn about alternate transportation and carbon-free electricity
High school students interested in engineering, design or bikes, and attending a school in the SVCE service area*, this is your chance to demonstrate and build upon your knowledge by partaking in a unique STEM competition.
Because Silicon Valley Clean Energy believes that the future is electric, we seek to create a way for high school students to engage with the electrification movement. As a community-owned agency, not only are we focused on reducing carbon, but we are also committed to returning value to our community. To further a carbon-free future, we need students to be inspired to pursue a career in clean technologies. By providing an interdisciplinary learning experience at the intersection of STEM and clean energy, we hope to accomplish this goal.
SVCE’s “Bike to the Future” provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about alternate transportation and carbon-free electricity. We invite students in our service area to take part in this competition to connect design and engineering in a fun and creative way. Over the course of a few months this spring, student teams will explore electric bicycle technology by building their own e-bike from start to finish, while SVCE supplies funding for the necessary materials. “Bike to the Future” allows students to showcase their e-bike design, innovative engineering and team spirit, through a variety of challenges.
The top three teams will win a scholarship prize of:
1st place: $5,000
2nd place: $3,500
3rd place: $2,000
The main event will be held at Gilroy Gardens on May 5, 2018.
*Nonprofits and government agencies are partners.
Share this opportunity with educators or students who may interested in signing up a team today! SVCE is also looking for volunteers with engineering or bike expertise that would be interested in mentoring a team. Please contact Kelly Hoogland at email@example.com for more information.
