New Chair and Vice Chair Named for SV Clean Energy
Sunnyvale, Calif. – On January 13, 2021, the Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) Board of Directors elected a new chair and vice chair to one-year terms. For 2021, Mountain View Councilmember Margaret Abe-Koga will serve her second term as Chair, and Campbell Mayor Liz Gibbons will serve as Vice Chair.
Margaret Abe-Koga has been serving as a Mountain View Councilmember since 2007, serving as Vice Mayor in 2008 and 2019, and as Mayor in 2009 and 2020. Chair Abe-Koga has served on the SVCE Board of Directors since 2017, and previously served as chair in 2019. Under her leadership as chair, SVCE adopted an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan to address charging needs throughout the community and launched the Education Fund to engage youth in the efforts to combat climate change.
“I am honored to be representing the City of Mountain View on the SV Clean Energy board and to be chairing the board once again this year. As a champion of sustainability, Mountain View is proud to be one of the founding agencies of SVCE, and of the significant impact our community is making by utilizing the clean electricity SVCE provides,” said Chair Abe-Koga. “SVCE has an exciting year ahead with new, innovative programs rolling out to support customers’ transition to clean, all-electric living and improving community energy resilience.”
Liz Gibbons is the Mayor of Campbell, having previously served as Mayor in 2016, and has served as a Campbell Councilmember since 2014. Vice Chair Gibbons is a founding board member of SVCE and has served as a director and a member of the agency’s Executive Committee since 2016. As SVCE continues to advance regional initiatives for all-electric buildings, Vice Chair Gibbons’ experience and expertise as a LEED-certified architect offers continued guidance in the planning and execution of the agency’s building decarbonization programs.
“SVCE continues to make strides towards the clean energy future, and as a founding board member of SVCE I am honored to represent my city as the Vice Chair for 2021,” said Vice Chair Gibbons. “Last year we crossed a big milestone by investing over $1 billion in new renewable energy projects, I look forward to seeing even more new projects this year and passing the cost savings to residents and businesses in the form of lower rates and customer programs.”
